Swiggy Changes Its Instagram Name To ‘Sweety’. What’s Behind the Unexpected Makeover

Swiggy has given its social media identity an unexpected makeover, changing the display name of its verified Instagram account from ‘Swiggy’ to ‘Sweety’ and replacing its usual brand-facing bio with the line, “sweets to you 🧡, on time”.

The change has caught users’ attention, with the food delivery platform appearing to step into a new, more playful online persona.

The makeover appears to go beyond a social media profile update. A LinkedIn user recently shared an experience of receiving a Swiggy delivery from a partner whose T-shirt reportedly carried the name ‘SWEETY’. Other users have also been discussing the unexpected switch, with some questioning the sudden change and others treating it as a playful brand move.

While Swiggy has not publicly explained the thinking behind the change, the move has opened up a conversation around how established brands use their social media presence to create attention without relying on a conventional advertising campaign.

For a brand with an established identity, changing something as recognisable as its social media name is an easy way to interrupt the usual scrolling experience. Followers who are accustomed to seeing the Swiggy name and logo are suddenly met with ‘Sweety’, prompting them to revisit the profile, question the change and share it with others.

The internet, meanwhile, has its own theory about the sudden makeover. Many are speculating that the name ‘Sweety’ could be linked to Swiggy’s updated bio, which reads, “sweets to you 🧡, on time”.

The wording has led to speculation that the brand may be hinting at its dessert and sweets delivery offerings, with the line playing on Swiggy’s promise of getting orders to customers on time. While the connection seems plausible, the brand is yet to confirm whether the name change is part of a larger campaign or a standalone social media stunt.

Swiggy has previously shown an appetite for playful, real-time social media engagement. In 2025, the platform joined the viral ‘Prashant’ trend after a creator mispronounced croissant, turning the moment into a platform-specific interaction around food discovery. The brand has also used unexpected social media communication to invite audience participation and generate conversation.

The latest ‘Sweety’ identity follows a similar instinct for using humour and internet culture to make the brand feel more conversational. Rather than changing its core identity, Swiggy appears to be experimenting with the personality it presents on social media.
